About Dr. Turner

 

Dr. Anita Turner is an educational consultant who believes in the tremendous impact education has on individuals, families and communities. For the past thirty-five years, she has worked diligently to be the best educator and motivate other educators to reach their highest potential as well. She has taught middle, senior, continuation and adult schools.

Dr. Anita Turner served as Chief Academic Officer (CAO) in a highly respected charter organization in the Los Angeles area. She was responsible for the academic achievement of over 3,000 students and worked with a 500 member staff including administrators, educators, paraeducators, and support staff. She had oversight of 6 schools on 12 campuses as well as supervising the instructional, counseling, special education, after-school and performing arts staff.

Dr. Turner is a former Charter Schools Division Administrator for Los Angeles Unified School District and former Program Director for the Los Angeles Urban Teacher Residency (LAUTR) and Los Angeles New Administrators’ Leadership (LANALP) programs.

Dr. Turner was nominated for an Emmy for co-producing a six-part video series entitled Teachers and Their Coaches, received the Phi Delta Kappa-Delta Kappa Chapter award for Educator of the Year, recognized at Washington Preparatory High School with the Teacher of the Year, Apple Award, Crenshaw High School with Outstanding Teacher of the Year, and her teaching style was featured in the novel, “And Still We Rise” by Miles Corwin.

Dr. Turner coordinated a professional development center (K-12) where she trained and coached teachers and conducted workshops on various topics at faculty meetings, school/district training and a educational conferences. In addition, she enjoyed a successful ten year tenure as an adjunct professor in the Charter College of Education at California State University at Los Angeles (CSULA). She was the founding secondary principal at the Accelerated Charter Middle/Senior High School in Los Angeles as well as the Director of Literacy for five middle schools through the Urban Education Partnership.

Dr. Turner holds a B.A. in Child/Human Development from U. C. Davis, a M.A. and credential in Special Education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing from California State University at Northridge (CSUN), a M.A. and credential in Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, from California State University at Los Angeles (CSULA) and a doctorate from the California University of Theology with an emphasis on Women’s Ministry.
